Walsingham Academy’s boys and girls cross-country teams took home first place during Thursday’s Bishop Sullivan Invitational at Mt. Trashmore Park in Virginia Beach.
The Walsingham girls won the team competition with an impressive 18 points, which was a result of the Trojans placing all five scoring runners in the top seven.
Bishop Sullivan took second place with 53 points, while Norfolk Christian rounded out the top three with 86 points.
Delaney Riggs claimed first place in the girls race with a time of 21:12, while her teammate Cammie Mann edged out Bishop Sullivan’s Mary O’Flaherty in a photo finish for second place. Both Mann and O’Flaherty finished the race in 21:35.
Kylie Curran finished in fourth place for the Trojans, while Frankie Riggs and Grace Vidlak took fifth and sixth, respectively.
On the boys side, the Trojans cruised to victory with 32 points, which put them 14 points ahead of second place Cape Henry.
Walsingham Academy’s Mathias Cannon won the boys race in a time of 17:46, while his teammate Jack Grimson took second with a time of 18:00. Chris Correll and Jake Lobash finished seventh and eighth, respectively. Eddie Miller was the final Walsingham scorer, finishing the race in 14th place.
The Trojans will continue their season Sept. 17 at home during the Walsingham Invitational at Eastern State Hospital.
