The Walsingham Academy boys soccer team dropped its first game of the season at home Tuesday, falling to Benedictine in a narrow 1-0 contest.
A slow first 15 minutes by the Trojans gave way to scoring opportunities for Benedictine.
A loose ball inside the Walsingham Academy box led to Benedictine’s Chris LaCivita getting a shot off that found its way past Trojan goalkeeper Harrison Forrest for the game’s opening goal.
The Trojans (1-1-1) had a chance to counter later in the first half as a Landon Gero cross to Tommy Menoni found its target, but the volleyed shot sailed over the crossbar.
After conceding the early goal, Forrest shut down scoring opportunities and finished the game with four saves.
Neither team was able to break through in the second half, with Benedictine (2-0) holding on to the 1-0 victory.
Walsingham Academy will play host to Banner Christian at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
