Gregory Stuart Haynes, of James City County, died unexpectedly Sunday, Aug. 23, 2015, at the age of 53.
Mr. Haynes collapsed at his home late Saturday night, and after many attempts to revive him, he was pronounced dead at Sentara Williamsburg Regional Hospital early Sunday morning.
Mr. Haynes was a native of Fredericksburg and spent his early years volunteering for the Fredericksburg Rescue Squad and Volunteer Fire Department. He then began his career working in nuclear security at the North Anna Power Station in 1981.
He then moved to Williamsburg to pursue his career at the Dominion Surry Power Station where he became the manager of nuclear protection services and worked for Dominion for 34 years.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Lynne J. Haynes; daughter, Leslie Newman and her husband, Ian Newman; mother, Audrey Haynes, of Fredericksburg; two brothers; and one sister. He will be missed by his longtime friends and work family at the Surry Power Station.
He was preceded in death by his father, Medford Haynes.
The services were held Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2015, at Nelsen Funeral Home and Williamsburg Memorial Park.
