Find Your ParkHistoric Jamestowne and Yorktown Battlefield will be celebrating the National Park Service’s 99th birthday next week by offering free admission for all visitors Tuesday.

The Jamestown Visitor Center will be showing an orientation film on every hour and half hour, offering ranger guided tours of Jamestown at half past every hour between 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. and presenting a special lecture about National Park Services Archaeology on Jamestown Island at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

Guests at the Yorktown Battlefield Visitor Center can catch screenings of an orientation film on the hour and half-hour, participate in a guided walk through the battlefield at a quarter after every hour from 10:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. and tour the Moore House any time between 10 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Visitors to both locations can also enjoy a complimentary slice of birthday cake while supplies last.

Offering free admission to Jamestown and Yorktown is part of an ongoing initiative called “Find Your Park,” which is focused on getting a new generation of visitors out to their local national parks. “Find Your Park” is linked with the National Park Service’s centennial celebration, which will culminate when the park service officially turns 100 next August.

In an effort to attract and engage new park visitors, the National Park Service has created a list of 99 ways to “Find Your Park.” These include many objectives that can be completed locally, such as “walk through the doorway of a historic house,” “find a monument” and “wander an American battlefield.” Visitors trying to complete items on the checklist are being encouraged to share their experiences on social media with #FindYourPark.

“Birthdays are a time to celebrate and we want everyone to join the party,” said Colonial NHP Superintendent Kym Hall. “Colonial National Historical Park offers something for everyone, so I invite you to visit.”
