WAC Swimmers Show Out During Eastern Zone Championships

USA Swimming LogoSeven Williamsburg Aquatic Club swimmers took to the pool to compete in the USA Swimming Eastern Zone Age Group Championships last week.

The meet, which was held between Aug. 5 and Aug 8, took place in Richmond and featured some of the best youth swimmers in the region.

Grace Olsen, the lone female WAC swimmer at the meet, took home the only first-place finish of the group, claiming first in the girls 13-14 200-meter freestyle relay.

Olsen finished fourth in the girls 13-14 100-meter butterfly in a time of 1:06.38 and also helped the Virginia 400-meter freestyle relay team take fourth place in the girls 13-14 age division.

WAC had two swimmers compete in the boys 10 and under division — Elijah Fields and Carter Burrows.

Fields helped the Virginia 200-meter medley relay claim the bronze medal, while also taking fifth in the 400-meter medley relay. He also helped lead a 200-meter freestyle relay to a seventh-place finish. Burrows saw his best finish in the 50-meter butterfly finals, claiming 20th place in a time of 34.95.

In the boys 11-12 age division, Jacob Sprigg contributed to a 15th-place finish in the 400-meter freestyle relay with a time of 4:20.19. He also finished 16th in the 200-meter butterfly prelims.

Chris Kostelni, who competed in the boys 13-14 age division, finished in seventh place during the 400-meter freestyle and eighth in the 800-meter freestyle. Kostelni also earned 10th place in the 1,500-meter freestyle with a time of 17:37.23.

Also competing in the boys 13-14 age group, Julian Montes had most of his success in the 100-meter backstroke and butterfly prelims. In the 100-meter backstroke prelims, Montes just missed qualifying for the finals in 11th place, while he also just missed the finals in the 100-meter butterfly after finishing 12th in the preliminaries.

In the oldest age group, 15-18, Ilya Boiko helped a pair of relay teams earn top-15 finishes. In the 200-meter freestyle relay, Boiko helped his relay team earn a seventh-place finish. He also helped navigate a relay team to an 11th-place finish in the 400-meter freestyle relay.
