venom3Dtranpt-01-mediumAfter holding tryouts for Virginia Venom’s upcoming volleyball season on Aug. 1 and 2, the organization announced it will be adding an additional tryout date due to popular demand.

The new tryouts will be held Sunday at Warhill High School and will last from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. depending on age group.

Grassroots and 12U teams will try out from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m., boys 13U and 14U teams will try out from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., girls 13U and 14U teams will have tryouts from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., 15U and 16U girls will try out from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 17U and 18U girls will try out from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

More tryouts were warranted after almost 20 kids per age group showed up to the earlier batch of tryouts.

“We did not offer all the spots, but we’re looking to field two teams in almost every age group,” said Venom and Warhill Head Coach Greg Koon. “We’ve got a bunch of kids coming out this weekend because there were a lot of people out of town during the week when we had the first tryouts.”

All players who participate in the free tryouts will receive evaluations shortly after the conclusion of the tryouts. Offers for players deemed worthy of a roster spot will also be offered after the tryouts.

The final tryout date for Venom volleyball is Sept. 13, though that tryout could be modified depending on how many spots fill up Sunday.

Koon encouraged any volleyball players looking for somewhere to play this fall to come and see what Virginia Venom is all about.

“If they’re looking for a place to play and like what Venom stands for, they should definitely attend and consider their options.”
