A Newport News woman will serve a fraction of a 30-year prison sentence for stealing $30,000 from a woman she cared for.
Michele Lee Conley, 43, received three-year prison sentences for 10 counts of forgery and uttering after she tricked a 92-year-old York County woman and her husband into writing her multiple paychecks throughout the week and using the couple’s credit card for personal use.
All but three months of each sentence were suspended, and each sentence will run concurrently, leaving Conley to serve three months in prison.
She must also pay more than $29,000 in restitution to the couple, and faces 20 years of probation.
Conley pleaded guilty in York-Poquoson Circuit Court in May to the 10 counts of forgery and uttering. Each charge carried a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.
