Former Lafayette High School and current University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill swimmer Ben Colley will compete against some of the country’s top swimmers starting Friday.

Colley, a four-time All-State swimmer at Lafayette, is swimming the 100- and 200-meter butterfly during the 2015 Phillips 66 National Championships in San Antonio, Texas.

Seeded second overall in the 200-meter butterfly and 44th in the 100-meter butterfly, Colley will compete against some of the top swimmers in the world, including 18-time Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps.

Competing against top names is nothing new for Colley, who earned All-American honorable mentions in the 200-meter butterfly during the NCAA Championships in March.

Colley will kick off his preliminary swims on Friday in the 200-meter butterfly. Should he advance past he prelims, Colley will swim in the finals during Friday’s evening session.

On Saturday morning, Colley will attempt to qualify for the finals of the 100-meter butterfly, which will be held Saturday evening.

All swimming events during the Phillips 66 National Championships will be streamed live online on the USA Swimming website.
