Police Find Handgun Near Playground

The James City County Police Department is reaching out to the public for information about a possible playground shooting.

Officers responded to the ball field/playground on the 6100 block of Old Mooretown Road around 1:40 a.m. Aug. 2 for a reported fight and shooting, according to a post on the James City County Facebook page. People fled the field as officers arrived.

During a search of the area, officers found a handgun on the ground.

No injuries have been reported and no witnesses have come forward.

Police are asking anyone with information about the incident or those involved to call the Crime Line at 888-LOCK-U-UP. Callers may remain anonymous, do not have to testify in court and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 if the information leads to an arrest.
