A program that aims to guide people through the process of creating an advance care directive is looking for ambassadors.
The Advance Care Planning Coalition of Eastern Virginia will be training Community Ambassadors, who help raise awareness of the importance of setting up end-of-life care preferences before it’s too late, as part of its As You Wish program.
“Call [an advance care directive] a matter of life before death,” said David Murray, executive director of the coalition, in an informational document about the program.
As You Wish is seeking ambassadors for the greater Peninsula area, including Williamsburg, to help raise awareness of taking action now for end-of-life issues that could come up later.
Those interested in becoming an ambassador should register before Aug. 10 by calling 757-325-9400 or emailing email@example.com. Sessions are set for 5:30 to 8 p.m. Aug. 13 and 10 to 1 p.m. Aug. 14 at the Virginia Department of Health at 416 J. Clyde Morris Blvd. in Newport News.
Community Ambassador volunteers must bring a copy of their current advance directive to the program.
