William David Crosby, of Yorktown, died Thursday, July 30, 2015, at the age of 68.
Dave was a native of Dothan, Alabama and a Peninsula resident since 1962. He was a graduate of Ferguson High School, class of 1964. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Christopher Newport College in 1980 and a Master of Science Degree from Old Dominion University in 1987.
He retired from Newport News Public Schools and taught most of his career at Reservoir Middle School. He was a member of First Baptist Church where he sang with both the Adult Choir and the Swingin’ Singers. He was also a former member of the Peninsula Concert Band where he played tuba and trombone.
He faithfully served his country with the U.S. Army Reserves from 1967 to 1969. He was then called to active duty from 1969 to 1971 and upon completion of his active duty, he returned to the reserves and served until 1982. After retiring he worked as a tour guide for the Jamestown Yorktown Foundation where he shared his love of history by leading school tours.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Alice Crosby.
He is survived by his daughters, Kimberly Crosby Kozenski (Scott), of Gloucester and Leslie Crosby, of Newport News; a sister, Carolyn Chittenden (Robert), of Grafton; grandchildren, Emma Kate Kozenski, Amelia Kozenski and Anabel Kozenski; and nephew, Edward Markey Chittenden, of Savannah, Georgia.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 13, 2015, at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Colonial Harbor for all the care and support given to David during his stay.
