Jean Wellington Terry, of Williamsburg, died July 31, 2015, at the age of 104 years and 75 days.

Jean was active and vibrant until the last weeks of her life. Born in Monticello, Maine to Elbridge C. and Lottie B. Wellington, she was the first of three girls raised on one of Maine’s potato farms.

Jean obtained her degree in education from Colby College in 1932. While at Colby she pledged Sigma Kappa in 1928 and remained active in her sorority until her death.

At Colby, she met the love of her life, William Miller Terry, to whom she was married for 64 years until his death. During her teaching career she assisted in the planning and implementation of desegregation in the Miami-Dade Co. schools in Florida.

Jean is survived by her son, Elbridge “Buzz” Wellington Terry (Sherry Payne Terry); grandchildren, William Wellington Terry (Christie), Robert Ralph Terry (Fay), Barbara Jean Gallo (James) and Joseph Clark Windham IV; and five great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the staff of Spring Arbor, Hospice Community Care and Comfort Keepers for their loving and compassionate service.
