A new Japanese chain restaurant is coming to the City of Williamsburg.
Oishi Sushi King plans to open a location at 3044 Richmond Road in Williamsburg in Patriot Plaza.
Owned and operated by Oishi Group, the chain currently has locations in Midlothian, Norfolk, Newport News, Richmond and Virginia Beach. Oishi Group spokeswoman Miyuki Lin said the company hoped to expand to more locations throughout Virginia.
Lin also said Sushi King offered a unique Japanese dining experience.
“At a traditional Japanese restaurant, you pay for each item on the menu you order,” she said. “At Sushi King, you pay a flat rate and order whatever you want off the menu.”
Lin said the all-you-can-eat concept had made the existing Sushi King locations popular among patrons. She added the Williamsburg location would likely have a lunch rate of about $12 and a dinner rate of around $19. The restaurant’s menu will include hibachi, sushi, sashimi and special entrees.
“It’s all made to order, at traditional sushi quality, but also a decent price,” Lin said.
Lin said the chain did not see any unique advantages to the Richmond Road location, which previously housed a Chinese restaurant, but was confident its model would resonate with Williamsburg residents.
“It’s more about what we are selling,” Lin said.
The restaurant has planned an Aug. 12 grand opening for the restaurant, with dining service beginning at 5 p.m.
