U.S. Congressman Rob Wittman, the Republican representative from Virginia’s first district, has been named an Honorary Marine by General Joseph F. Dunford Jr., Commandant of the United States Marine Corps.

This honor is given to civilians who have made “extraordinary contributions to the Marine Corps.”

Wittman is the 96th person to receive the title.

During his time as a representative of Virginia’s first district, which includes the Marine Corps Base Quantico, Wittman has served as chairman of the House Armed Services Readiness Subcomittee and as co-chairman of the Congressional Shipbuilding Caucus.

“Our nation would not be the greatest in the world were it not for the United States Marine Corps, and I am truly humbled to receive this honor,” Wittman said. “I will continue to do all that I can to support our Marines and their families.”
