Three pieces of bicycle-inspired art are being displayed outside The Design Center office building at New Town as part of a traveling art exhibit, Las Bicicletas.

Created by Mexican artist Gilberto Aceves Navarro, Las Bicicletas features 40 brightly colored statues that are temporarily being displayed in Williamsburg and Yorktown through October 2015. The statues are meant to serve as artistic pieces as well as promotions for cycling as a healthy sport and friendly mode of transportation.

The three statues displayed outside The Design Center are sponsored by Guernsey Tingle Architects, TAM Consultants and Howell Creative Group.

Williamsburg and Yorktown were selected to host the statues due to the cycling culture in the Historic Triangle and the popularity of the Virginia Capital Bike Trail.

After the art exhibit leaves the area, it will travel to larger areas such as Chicago, Toronto, San Diego and South America.
