The Kiwanis Club of Williamsburg has announced Lackey Free Clinic and Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Virginia Peninsula will receive its Headliner Awards.

Since the Kiwanis Club of Williamsburg’s 1958 founding, it has been dedicated to helping children in need.

The club, which has more than 170 members, selects a number of headliners each year to benefit from the money raised by the club. Much of the money raised comes from three major events: Shrimp Feast, Shamrock the ‘Burg and Smokin’ Hot BBQ.

This year’s recipients reflect the club’s mission of helping children physically, mentally and emotionally.

The Lackey Free Clinic, a healthcare center that provides medical, dental and other healthcare services to low-income and uninsured residents of the Historic Triangle and upper Newport News.

Big Brothers Big Sisters pairs adult mentors with at-risk youths in the community.

The headliners also are encouraged to have a presence at each event; in many cases, the organizations will set up a table or booth from which they can share information about their causes.

The next major annual fundraiser will be Shrimp Feast, which will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. Sept. 12, at the Jamestown 4-H Educational Center. Information about purchasing tickets can be found here.
