Morris Devernon “Ruff” Canaday Sr., of Williamsburg, died Sunday, July 19, 2015, at his home. He was 76.

His life’s journey began on Jan. 14, 1939, the son of the late Miles Pink and Lillian Taylor Canaday.

He was united in holy matrimony with Priscilla Perry Canaday, who preceded him in death. Unto this union, they were blessed with four children. He was an avid sportsman and he loved to raise a garden. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He leaves to cherish his loving and precious memories his daughter, Ingrid Canaday; his sons, Morris Jr., Jonathan and Charles Canaday (LaTonya); three grandchildren, Christian, Carlton and Elijah; sisters, Mavis Canaday and Audrey Brown (Percy Sr.); brothers, James Canaday (Olivia) and Robert Canaday; sister-in-law, Maxine Canaday; aunt, Mamie Brown; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and other loving relatives and many caring friends.

Family and friends will assemble by 11:45 a.m. Friday, July 24, 2015, at Whiting’s Funeral Home for a memorial service, celebrating the life he lived, beginning at noon with Dr. Robert A. Whitehead officiating.
