Three Historic Triangle students recently received scholarships from the local chapter of Soroptimist International and the Williamsburg Masonic Lodge No. 6.
Sarah Wright is a recent graduate of Lafayette High School who will be attending Longwood College in the fall.
Soroptimist, an organization dedicated to improving the lives of girls and women, awarded Sarah a $1000 scholarship toward her continuing education. Wright plans to study communications science and disorders at Longwood.
Thomas Hunter Embry is a recent graduate of Bruton High School. During his time there he earned a 4.54 GPA, in addition to being the captain of the soccer team and member of the track team.
Embry was also inducted into the National Honor Society, Chemistry Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society. He was awarded the MW William Rorer Scholarship, worth $1000, from the Williamsburg Masonic Lodge No. 6. This scholarship is given to a male attending the College of William and Mary with a Masonic relation. Thomas will attend the College of William & Mary in the fall.
The Williamsburg Masonic Lodge No. 6 also awarded a scholarship of $500 to Darren James Murray, a rising junior at Old Dominion University.
Darren is a Master Mason of Yorktown Masonic Lodge No. 205, following in the footsteps of his father and uncle who were also past Master Masons at the same lodge.
Darren is majoring in computer engineering with a minor in computer science and has an overall GPA of 3.69.
