Williamsburg Post 39 did not have to step on the field to advance past the opening round of the District 3 tournament Monday evening.

As rain began falling in Williamsburg, the team received notice Gloucester had withdrawn from the tournament.

Gloucester was supposed to play Poquoson during the other District 3 tournament game Monday evening, while Williamsburg was scheduled to play Hampton.

With Gloucester’s withdrawal from the tournament, Williamsburg will automatically advance to take on the winner between Hampton and Poquoson in the other quarterfinal matchup in a double-elimination series.

As the highest remaining seed, Williamsburg will play the remainder of its games in the District 3 tournament at home. The team will continue its District 3 tournament play at Warhill High School on Wednesday.

Correction: Williamsburg will play the winner of Hampton and Poquoson in a best-of-three series.
