Bruton High School has a new principal.
The York County School Board announced the appointment of Arletha Dockery as Bruton’s next principal after a closed-door meeting Wednesday night.
She replaces Dr. Alexis Swanson, who left to become Chief Academic Officer in King & Queen County Schools. Swanson had served as Bruton’s principal since 2013.
Dockery first came to the York County School Division in 2013 as an assistant at York High School.
Before coming to YCSD, Dockery served as an assistant principal at Jamestown High School and the former James Blair Middle School in Williamsburg-James City County Schools.
Dockery received a bachelor’s degree from Elizabeth City State University, and holds a master’s degree from Regent University.
Dockery is the third new principal appointed in YCSD this summer. Shannon Butler was tapped as principal at York High School in June, and Kelly Denny will take over as principal at Yorktown Elementary School.
Dockery’s appointment is effective immediately.
