Williamsburg Post 39 Loses in 10 Innings

Williamsburg Post 39 dropped a tough 9-8 decision to King George post 89 on the road Sunday.

Sean Hughes put up big numbers at the plate for Williamsburg, driving in the game’s first run in the top of the first inning before delivering a three-run homer in the top of the sixth.

Holding a 7-3 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth, Williamsburg allowed King George to score four consecutive runs to tie up the game.

In the bottom of the sixth, an RBI single was followed by back-to-back Williamsburg fielding errors that allowed King George to pull within one run.

An RBI single to left field in the bottom of the seventh knotted the game at 7-7.

Hughes responded in the top of the eighth inning for Williamsburg, hitting an RBI single to center field to put the visitors up 8-7. The lead was quickly erased as King George responded with an RBI groundout in the bottom of the eighth.

In the bottom of the 10th inning with a runner on third base, Williamsburg allowed the winning run to reach home off a passed ball, giving King George the dramatic 9-8 win.
