Williamsburg Post 39 took advantage of a rough pitching night from Poquoson Post 273 starter Robbie Barrett during a 10-4 road win Thursday evening.
Sean Hughes started the scoring for Williamsburg in the top of the first inning by smacking a two-run single to left field.
In the top of the second inning, Tyler Floyd advanced to home off an errant throw, which put Williamsburg up 3-0.
Kent Klyman kept building on the lead in the top of the fourth inning, delivering an RBI double to right field that brought home Zach Calloway.
After surrendering a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, Williamsburg responded with four runs of their own in the top of the fifth inning.
Hughes delivered another two-run single to start the inning off, which was followed by Hughes advancing to home on a passed ball three at-bats later. Floyd grounded out to second base later that inning, but his groundout resulted in another Williamsburg run, putting them up 8-2.
Christopher Jones brought Luke Patterson home on a single to right field in the top of the sixth inning, which was followed by a Romero RBI double to conclude Williamsburg’s scoring for the game.
Two Poquoson runs in the bottom of the sixth inning cut into Williamsburg’s lead, but it was ultimately not enough to earn a victory.
Williamsburg (10-1) will take two days off before traveling to take on Gloucester Post 75 during a Sunday road doubleheader.
