A night removed from its first loss of the season, Williamsburg Post 39 hammered Hampton Post 31 during a doubleheader Wednesday.
Both games were eventually called due to the American Legion 10-run rule, but not before Williamsburg put up 13 runs in the first game against Hampton and 22 runs in the second. Hampton did not score a run in either game.
The first game featured balanced scoring by Williamsburg through the first four innings of play.
Christopher Jones did most of the heavy lifting on offense for Williamsburg, going a perfect 3-3 from the plate and driving in five runs.
After jumping out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning, Jones delivered a three-run triple in the top of the second inning to push Williamsburg ahead 6-0.
Jones tripled again in the top of the fourth inning, this time driving in two runs.
Starting pitcher Blake Otey threw a solid five innings, allowing two hits and striking out six batters en route to the shutout victory.
Williamsburg did most of its damage in the top of the second inning during the second game of the doubleheader, putting up 12 runs to blow the game wide open.
Luke Patterson started the second inning scoring by hitting a two-run single, which was followed by a Roger Romero RBI single.
Luke Bruce reached first base later that inning on a dropped third strike, which allowed Romero to score from third as Hampton tried to throw Bruce out at first base.
Tyler Floyd, who earned the win on the mound for Williamsburg, got into the offensive action by hitting an RBI double to left field.
Back-to-back RBI singles from Lucas Rice and Kyle Morgan put Williamsburg on top 10-0 before a single out was recorded in the inning.
Robert Lipford kept the momentum going, belting a two-run double into right field. Patterson, on his second at-bat of the inning, delivered another RBI single. A sacrifice fly by Romero brought the scoring to a close in the second inning.
Williamsburg (9-1) will continue its season on the road Thursday against Poquoson Post 273.
