Marshall Jeffrey Spaan, a resident of Patriots Colony in Williamsburg, died peacefully on Sunday, June 21, 2015, at the age of 94.
The son of Blanche and Maximilian Spaan, Jeff was born on Jan. 5, 1921, in Jersey City, New Jersey and raised in Mendham, New Jersey by his maternal grandparents.
Jeff was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Catherine G. Spaan and his son, Marshall Jeffrey Spaan Jr. His daughter, Marion “Sandy” Patterson, resides in Toano. He was a grandfather to four and a great-grandfather to six.
A life well-lived began with Jeff’s church service as an altar boy, community service as an Eagle Scout and military service as a naval aviator during WWII. An accomplished 32-year corporate management career followed with the Quaker Oats Company, highlighted by his recognition as Kiwanis Man of the Year in 1983.
As an 18-year resident of Patriots Colony, Jeff actively participated in numerous business and social activities, including founding the Colony Chorus.
A funeral mass will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, July 10, 2015, at St. Bede’s Catholic Church, 3686 Ironbound Road, Williamsburg, VA 23188.
