The Virginia Legacy U17 Elite Soccer team polished off a perfect group stage performance Sunday during the U.S. Youth Soccer Region I Championships in West Virginia.

Virginia Legacy defeated Kirkwood Roma, a Delaware-based soccer club, 2-0 on Friday and the MSC Falcons, a Maryland-based club, 3-1 on Saturday.

On Sunday, the Legacy U17 Elite team cruised past the Vandals of West Virginia 7-0 to finish the group stage of the tournament with a perfect 3-0 record and advance to the semifinal.

The Legacy U17 Elite team left no doubt they were the top team in Group D as Reeves Trott scored the opening goal just nine minutes into Sunday’s game.

Nine minutes later, Trott assisted on a Jason Eckenrode goal to put the Legacy U17 Elite team up 2-0. Max Poelker put Legacy up 3-0 in the 23rd minute of play, scoring off an assist from Brennen Burton.

With less than five minutes left to play in the opening half, Legacy U17 Elite found the back of the net twice, once by Matt Beatty and once by Cameron Dail.

At halftime, Legacy U17 Elite held a commanding 5-0 advantage of the Vandals.

The second half featured fewer fireworks on the offensive end as Legacy U17 Elite netted a pair of goals from Dail and Trott, who each finished the game with two goals.

As the final whistle blew, Legacy U17 Elite found themselves with a perfect 3-0 record in Group D, scoring 12 goals while allowing one.

Virginia Legacy U17 Elite will advance to the semifinals of the U.S. Youth Soccer Region I Championships where they will take on Lehigh Valley United 97 out of Allentown, Pennsylvania, on Monday.

A win in the semifinal would put Virginia Legacy U17 Elite one win away from reaching the U.S. Youth Soccer National Championships, which will be held in Tulsa, Okla., July 20 to 26.
