Voters in precinct D of the Jamestown district will have a new polling place in November’s election after a vote by the James City County Board of Supervisors.
The board voted unanimously Tuesday to change the precinct from the James City County Recreation Center to King of Glory Lutheran Church on Longhill Road.
The move will help alleviate crowding at the rec center and will situate the voting location within the precinct, according to a memo to the supervisors from James City County Registrar A.J. Cole.
Cole appeared before the supervisors at Tuesday’s meeting to explain the placement of the Jamestown D precinct at the rec center was creating a “significant issue” for citizens. The D precinct shared the rec center with the B precinct.
“It causes long lines and waits for parking,” he said. “With another presidential election next year, we felt it was better to split them out.”
Now only the B precinct will vote at the rec center. Supervisor Kevin Onizuk (Jamestown) said he liked the precincts together but was not adverse to changing the location if it was causing problems for citizens.
The Jamestown D precinct includes Windsor Forest, Williamsburg West, Springhill and parts of Ford’s Colony.
King of Glory Lutheran Church is located at 4897 Longhill Road.
