Kingsmill Resort has installed a charging station for Tesla’s electric vehicles in the resort’s parking lot.
The station can add 58 miles of range per charging hour to Tesla’s Model S. Vehicles left plugged in overnight can fully recharge.
The S is a four-door sedan with a range of up to 270 miles per full charge.
“When people think of Williamsburg and horsepower, they usually mean actual power provided by horses, as in a horse and buggy or carriage,” Wayne Nooe, the general manager of Kingsmill Resort said in a news release. “At Kingsmill, while we respect the past, we are also forward-looking. Tesla Destination Charging provides our guests with a new form of horse-power and a leading-edge technology amenity and service.”
The new station is the second place electric vehicles can go for a charge in the Historic Triangle, though it is only open to resort patrons.
The other station was dedicated earlier this year in New Town. It serves several different kinds of electric cars, including Teslas. It is open to the public.
The charger is what’s known as a Tesla Destination Charging station. That program allows hotels, restaurants and shopping centers to partner with Tesla to allow customers to charge their vehicles while they patronize a business.
Prior to the installation of the station, the closest Tesla Destination Charging stations were in Richmond and Norfolk.
