The York County School Division is taking two heavy winters into account and updating its school closing and delay procedure.
The York County School Board approved changes to the school division’s student handbook Monday night, outlining new practices for weather-related closings and delays.
The updated procedures emphasize the role of social media and email contact to inform the community of delays and closings. The previous handbook listed only telephone notification as part of the delays and closings procedure.
While the school division previously used social media, like Facebook and Twitter, to announce delays and closings, the updated procedures include it as an official step in the notification process.
The new handbook also state parents will be notified by email if the school division has that contact information on file.
YCSD missed eight school days during the 2014-2015 school year due to inclement weather. It was the second consecutive school year marked by heavy snowfalls and multiple missed school days.
