Authorities with the Peninsula Health District are asking the public for help identifying a woman who may have come into contact with raccoons in York County.
Lois Gary with the health district said in a news release Friday afternoon the woman was assisting another good Samaritan Wednesday evening to rescue juvenile raccoons off the highway near the intersection of Old York Hampton Highway and Freedom Boulevard.
Health officials are worried about exposure to rabies and would like to speak with the woman to determine if she was exposed to the virus, which is often found in raccoons.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the woman are asked to call the Peninsula Health District Newport News Office of Environmental Health at 594-7340. After hours, citizens are asked to call York County Animal Control at 890-3601.
