Roy Thomas “Bootsie” Wood Sr., a native and lifelong resident of York County, living in Dandy since 1972, died Friday, June 12, 2015, at the age of 80.

He was a graduate of Poquoson High School, class of 1953. He was a U.S. Army veteran and received commendations for being an expert rifleman and a sharp shooter. He was a former firefighter with York County Fire Department in the 1950s and was owner and operator of Wood Septic Tank for over 50 years.

Bootsie is survived by his wife, Katherine; his children, Eddie, Jimmy, Stevie, Anthony and Roy; grandchildren, Paul, Clayton, Kenneth, Jayne, Christy, Amy, Thomas, Katherine, Shana and Alexa; and numerous great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Pete; sisters, Audrey Fox and Peggy Spencer; a brother, Clyde Wood; and his parents, Sydney and Bessie Wood.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 16, 2015, at Amory Funeral Home, Grafton. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17, 2015, at Lebanon Church of Christ with the Rev. Dennis Worsham officiating. Interment will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Williamsburg.
