Frances Whelemena Taylor, of Yorktown, died June 6, 2015, at the age of 78.

She was born daughter of the late George and Catheron Taylor in Yorktown on April 13, 1937. She was preceded in death by her sister, Ellen and her brother, Tony.

At an early age, Frances accepted Christ as her savior and was baptized at Shiloh Baptist Church. She was a faithful member and attended Sunday school and church services regularly until she was hospitalized in April 2015.

She attended York County Training School, trained at Sarah Hudgins and retired as a custodian from York County public schools. Frances was a long-standing member of the Order of Eastern Star, P.H.A. and Golden Rule Chapter #66. She loved the Lord and listening to gospel music. She offered encouraging words to anyone with whom she spoke to follow the words of the old hymn to “Hold onto God’s Unchanging Hand” by F. L. Eiland and Jennie Wilson.

Family and friends will assemble by 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2015, at Shiloh Baptist Church, Yorktown, for a celebration of her life beginning at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. Miss Taylor may be viewed two hours prior to the service.
