Sandy Steele, of Williamsburg, died at home on June 5, 2015, with her husband Bob at her side. She was 79.
Born in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, Sandy spent her early years there and graduated from Latrobe High School in 1953. She worked for the Latrobe Steel Company while her childhood sweetheart attended college. Sandy and Bob were married in 1958 and moved to Arlington to begin their life together.
Sandy raised four children and was very committed to their education, serving on many committees and organizations with their schools and activities. She also was a ceramics teacher and had a ceramics store. Upon retirement in 1999, Sandy and Bob moved to Williamsburg. She belonged to the Williamsburg Community Chapel and enjoyed greeting and serving on different committees. She also enjoyed bowling, crafts, her pugs and her church. Her smile and joy for life shall be missed.
Sandy is survived by her husband of 57 years, Bob; son, Bob Steele (Robbin), of Bon Air; daughter, Jeannie Kane (Kenny), of Richmond; and daughter, Jennifer Madison (Tom), of John’s Creek, Georgia; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sisters, Carol Megill, of Pittsburgh and Gwyn and husband, Jim Moran, of Virginia Beach.
Sandy was preceded in death by her daughter, Judy Jacobs (Raymond), of Troy, Texas, five sisters and one brother.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 14, 2015, at Williamsburg Community Chapel, 3899 John Tyler Highway, where a reception will follow. Interment will be held at Unity Cemetery, in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, at a later date.
