A 32-year-old woman pleaded guilty Friday to embezzling more than $5,000 from This Century Art Gallery between November 2013 and June 2014.

Candace Buck entered guilty pleas to one felony count of embezzlement and one felony count of forgery. Investigators believe she embezzled the money while employed at the gallery, which is located in Merchants Square.

The embezzlement was first reported to investigators by the gallery’s manager. After a nearly 60-day investigation, Buck turned herself into the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail.

She originally faced eight other felony counts of forgery and nine felony counts of uttering — the passing off of a forged document — however those were dropped at a preliminary hearing in January.

Buck will be sentenced at 9 a.m. July 22.
