York High School will have a new principal for the 2015-2016 school year.

Current York Principal Kendra Crump is resigning from the position to become Director of Teacher Licensure and School Leadership with the Virginia Department of Education, the York County School Division confirmed this week.

“I am excited about moving to the next level and know I will be able to positively affect Virginia’s students in this role,” Crump said in an email. “I will dearly miss the students and teachers from York High.  They are a hard-working, caring and [spirited] group of people and I am so thankful to them for their support over the 2 years I have been at York.”

YCSD Coordinator of Community and Public Relations Katherine Goff said Crump notified the school division and parents of her impending departure after accepting a position with VDOE.

Goff said Crump’s final day on the job had not been set, but it would be soon after the end of the current school year, near the end of June. Crump has served as York’s principal since 2013.

“The process [of finding Crump’s replacement] has already begun,” Goff said.

The school division has opened a survey for the York community seeking input on what qualities the school’s next principal should have.

Goff said the school division would also organize focus groups with staff members and the community to collect feedback on the new principal.

Goff said no timetable had been set for the selection of a new principal, but said it would be before the school reconvenes in the fall.

“We want to make sure they have enough time to prepare for the next school year,” Goff said.

Crump came to York after spending seven years as principal at Queens Lake Middle School. She replaced Dr. Peggie Constantino, who accepted a position with the College of William & Mary’s School of Education.

Crump earned her undergraduate degree from Hampton University. She went on to graduate with her master’s degree from Old Dominion University and her doctorate at The George Washington University.

Crump was the third principal at York in the last four years.
