Bruton’s historic season that saw the Panthers reach the regional tournament for the first time since 1997 came to an end Thursday.

The Panthers fell 5-2 on the road to Riverheads during the semifinal round of the 2A East tournament.

The pace was slow-moving in the first half, which ended with Riverheads holding a 1-0 advantage heading into halftime.

The second half featured more scoring from Riverheads, but the Panthers struggled to keep pace. Miguel Martinez and Matt Gerdes each scored second-half goals for Bruton, but their efforts proved fruitless by the time the final whistle sounded.

Bruton’s season (11-9) comes to a disappointing end, falling one game shy of reaching the Group 2A state tournament.
