After pitching almost flawlessly through the first 9 2/3 innings of play during Wednesday’s 3A East semifinal, York pitcher Chelsea Evans was finally bested by Brentsville in the bottom of the 10th inning.

With Evans and Brentsville pitcher Leah Shipp locked in a pitchers’ duel that saw both pitchers combine for 26 strikeouts while giving up five total hits, the game was sent into extra innings gridlocked at 0-0.

The eighth and ninth innings were more of the same as both teams failed to produce at the plate.

In the bottom of the 10th inning with two outs, Brentsville’s Makenzie Bailey stepped to the plate and crushed a walk-off home run over the center-field fence, ending York’s season.

The loss means the Falcons (15-8) will miss out on the 3A state tournament.
