Jean F. Carter, of Williamsburg, died Saturday, May 29, 2015, at the age of 90.

Jean was born in Richmond and was raised in James City County by Charles and Mary Thompson. She was a longtime member of James River Baptist Church where she taught first grade for over 45 years, was a vacation bible school teacher and a mission leader.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Jeff Carter.

She is survived by her two daughters, Sandra and Lynn; son-in-law, Ed; granddaughter, Dawn; and great-grandchildren Raiden and Sydnie.

A visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 1, 2015, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3758 Strawberry Plains Road, Williamsburg. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 2, 2015, at James River Baptist Church. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the James River Baptist Church, Lottie Moon Offering, 4931 Centerville Road, Williamsburg.
