York Boys, Girls Tennis Players Shine During 3A East Singles Tournaments

Three York tennis players reached the 3A East region singles final, which is tentatively scheduled for Thursday.

In the girls singles tournament, York’s No. 1 Gaby Tersigni defeated Fendi Bea of Thomas Jefferson 6-0, 6-1 in the quarterfinal and then Anahita Moseberry of John Champe 6-1, 6-3 in the semifinal.

York’s No. 2 singles player Kristin Dantzler defeated Thomas Jefferson’s Valentine Giunchiglia 6-1, 6-0 in the quarterfinal and James Monroe’s Lucy Castles 3-6, 6-1, 6-0 in the semifinal.

Both Tersigni and Dantzler will play for the 3A East championship and will automatically advance to the state tournament.

In the boys competition, Josh McFadden defeated Armstrong’s Husufu Ibrahim 6-1, 6-1 in the quarterfinal and James Monroe’s Marshall Wood 6-4, 6-4 in the semifinal.

McFadden will take on Skyline’s Stephano Trentini in the 3A East championship match.

The 3A East doubles tournament, which was scheduled to begin Tuesday, was postponed to Wednesday due to weather.
