The Jamestown boys soccer team overcame a tough Tabb squad during the Conference 19 semifinals Thursday, besting the Tigers 3-2 in penalty kicks.
In the 16th minute of play, Duncan McDevitt found the ball thanks to a Jeff Wolons pass. McDevitt finished the shot to put the Eagles up 1-0.
Tabb responded with a goal of its own to knot the game at 1-1 before adding another first-half goal to take a 2-1 lead heading into the break.
Five minutes into the second half, Jeff Wolons tied the game coming off a Duncan McDevitt assist.
Neither team found the back of the net again in regulation, sending the game into overtime. Both teams came up empty during overtime, sending the game into a penalty shootout.
During the penalty shootout, Jamestown goalkeeper Trevor Hartnett came up big for the Eagles, recording three saves to help secure the 3-2 win.
The loss brings Tabb’s season (7-7-2) to a close one game short of making the regional tournament.
Jamestown (14-1) will automatically advance to the 4A South tournament, but not before hosting Smithfield for the Conference 19 championship on Friday.
