WILLIAMSBURG — Former William & Mary All-America defensive end Mike Reilly has signed a free agent contract with the Cleveland Browns.
Reilly is one of two former Tribe players to sign with a NFL team this month, as standout wide receiver Tre McBride was selected by the Tennessee Titans in the seventh round of the NFL Draft.
Reilly joins a group of seven former Tribe standouts who are currently on NFL rosters: R.J. Archer (Seattle Seahawks), Jerome Couplin III (Philadelphia Eagles), Jonathan Grimes (Houston Texans), Mike Leach (Arizona Cardinals), Sean Lissemore (San Diego Chargers), McBride (Tennessee Titans) and B.W. Webb (Pittsburgh Steelers).
One of the nation’s top defensive ends this fall, Reilly garnered All-America honors from the Associated Press, the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and The Sports Network following his senior season.
In addition to the All-America distinction, Reilly was also chosen as the 2014 Colonial Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Year and to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) FCS All-Star Team.
A first-team All-CAA selection during each of the past two years, Reilly ranked 13th in the country with 0.92 sacks per game this fall. Additionally, the Buchanan Award Watch List selection ranked second in the CAA with 11.0 sacks – a figure that ranks third on W&M’s single-season list. Reilly’s stats also included 41 tackles, 12.0 TFL, eight quarterback hurries, two PBU, a forced fumble and a block.
In addition to totaling 22.5 sacks during the past two seasons – the most in school history during a two-year span – Reilly finished his career with 27 sacks, which ranks second at W&M.
