Hampton Roads Academy kicked off the high school graduation season with a ceremony Saturday in the school’s Svein J. Lassen Auditorium.

David Halliday, a 1998 graduate of the school who will receive his Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina next year, served as the commencement speaker. Upper School Math Teacher John Hilburger, senior Jeffrey Stout and Headmaster Peter W. Mertz also spoke at the ceremony.

“The class of 2015 represents a variety of talents, their drive for success has produced a fine group of young adults who are truly ready for college and beyond,” Mertz said in his closing remarks.

HRA’s class of 2015 achieved a 100 percent college acceptance rate and earned nearly $4 million in merit-based scholarships and awards. Students from this class – three of whom were recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation – will attend 44 different colleges and universities.
