A seven-run bottom of the fifth allowed Warhill to pull away from Lafayette during an 11-1 home victory in the Conference 25 quarterfinals Monday.
Leading 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning, Warhill’s Colby Norris sparked the pivotal inning with a two-run single to right field. Two at-bats later, Keely Rochard hit an RBI single to center field.
Kasey Tomes delivered an RBI single that gave way to a Jewel Walters sacrifice squeeze to extend Warhill’s lead to 8-1. Kieran McClure hit an RBI single to center field and later scored in a wild pitch to give the Lions a 10-1 advantage.
A run in the bottom of the sixth ended the game due to the Virginia High School League 10-run rule.
The loss closes Lafayette’s season (0-19), which ended without a win for the fourth consecutive season.
Conversely, Warhill (18-3) will advance to host the winner between New Kent and Park View on Wednesday.
