Dorothy Marie Hunt McDonald, of Williamsburg, died May 7, 2015, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was 74.

Dorothy was born Jan. 5, 1941, at the old Bell Hospital in Williamsburg. She lived her early years in Warwick County, graduating from Warwick High School in 1959. She served as a long-term substitute teacher for Newport News public schools for 25 years. Dorothy loved spending time with her family and enjoyed her travels to Bermuda, Hawaii, Europe and across the country. Her favorite places to visit were Disneyland and Disney World and she loved listening to Elvis, country and 1950s music. One of her treasured memories was an autograph and kiss on the cheek from Elvis Presley.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her father, Vernon L. Hunt Sr.; mother, Margaret E. Houchins Hunt; and brother, Vernon L. Hunt Jr.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 56 years, James McDonald Sr., of Williamsburg; daughters, Dorothy McClellan (Glenn), of Williamsburg and Melissa Chai (Duke), of Williamsburg; son, James McDonald Jr. (Christine), of Gloucester; grandchildren, Elizabeth Heishman (Adam), of Williamsburg, Kerstin Evans, of High Point, North Carolina, Tyler McClellan, Eric Chai, Adam Chai and Ian Chai, of Williamsburg and Connor McDonald and Katherine McDonald, of Gloucester; great-granddaughter, Allison Heishman, of Williamsburg; and sister, Nancy Zick, of Williamsburg.

A funeral service was held Monday, May 11, 2015, at Weymouth Funeral Home conducted by David Faith, associate minister of Williamsburg Christian Church. Entombment will followed at Williamsburg Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center or the Williamsburg Christian Church.
