Tender Hands LLC, a home health aide business located off Ironbound Road in James City County that sent contract nurses to retirement homes throughout the area, has closed.
There were seven to eight employees who worked for the business at the time of its closure, according to owner Nena Abernathy. That number changed frequently as demand from the retirement homes it served fluctuated.
Abernathy said the business was not making enough money to remain open. She said her employees all have other jobs and she offered them contract work to make extra money.
Home health aide workers go to the places where their patients live and treat them in home. They are frequently used in larger retirement homes and private residences, offering services including bathing, grooming, meal preparation, housekeeping and dressing.
Tender Hands LLC opened in 2011. It was located in the Ironbound Business Center, a small shopping center near New Town on Ironbound Road.
