Less than two weeks after rolling out a new exhibit, the Muscarelle Museum of Art will host its inaugural bluegrass, beer and barbecue festival on Kentucky Derby Weekend.

The festival, called Bluegrass, Beer & Barbecue in the ‘Burg, runs from 1 to 5 p.m. May 3 and features craft beer from local breweries, barbecue sauce tastings and plenty of food, according to a news release from the museum.

Music will be provided by the Virginia Bluegrass band and More Perfect Jones, with tunes alternating between traditional and modern bluegrass.

Tickets are $35 for adults, while children 6 through 12 get in for $12. Children 5 and under get in free. Tickets can be purchased online.

The barbecue-themed festival follows Wine & Run for the Roses, an annual fundraising venture for the museum set to start at 2 p.m. May 2. This year’s theme is Laugh! Libate! Lift Your Paddle for a Good Cause! Attendees to the $200-per-person event will get to bid on rare wines and travel opportunities, with proceeds benefiting the museum.

The Wine & Run for the Roses will feature televisions broadcasting the Kentucky Derby after the auction is complete. Tickets are available by calling 221-6019 or visiting the event’s website.
