It wasn't always easy, but Warhill's girls tennis team managed to gut out a 6-3 win on the road against Tabb on Thursday.
During blustery conditions, the Lions and Tigers battled back and forth, especially in the singles matches in which two games lasted around two hours.
In No. 2 singles, Tabb's Katherine Galoozis withstood a hard-hitting Katie Braddom for a 6-4, 6-4 win that lasted just under two hours.
Braddom kept Galoozis on her heels with a powerful, but slightly inconsistent serve. When it landed within the service box, Braddom's serve would force Galoozis to make a hastened shot. In some instances, the serves would sail past Williams for aces.
Recognizing the power of Braddom, Galoozis decided to slow the game down and force Braddom to move around the court return shots.
"Whenever she was up, I tried to hit it above her because she's a really hard hitter," Galoozis said. "I never wanted to hit it directly to her so I made her run around the court."
Galoozis' plan worked to perfection, baiting Braddom into hitting tougher shots that fell into the net.
Warhill's Ellie Buscher and Tabb's Julie Hwang battled in the No. 3 singles match for just over two hours, with Buscher coming out on top in the end during a 10-8 third-set tiebreaker.
"It was really hard staying energized," she said. "I noticed some of the times when I went up to the net she would lob it over. I tried not to do that as much and tried to play her game as best I could and respond."
Leading 4-2 after the singles concluded, Warhill controlled the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches to secure the team victory.
