TabbHighSchoolLogoAfter surrendering seven runs over the first two innings, Tabb responded by putting up nine runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to pull off a major 10-8 comeback at home against New Kent on Wednesday.

The Trojans jumped on Tabb starting pitcher Alexis Gore early, hitting three consecutive doubles before New Kent scored another run on a fielding error.

Leading 4-0, New Kent continued to rough up Gore in the top of the second inning, hitting an RBI single before bringing in two more runs on a Stephanie Torrence triple to right field.

Down 7-0, Ashley Adams came into the game in relief of Gore, who lasted 1 1/3 innings. Adams forced two straight outs to get the Tigers out of the second-inning jam.

Trailing 8-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Tigers strung together nine runs to take the lead.

A single, hit-by-pitch and walk to start the inning set the stage for the comeback.

With the bases loaded, Amber Verstynen drew a walk that brought in a run. Two at-bats later, Adams followed suit by earning a run on a walk.

Down 8-3, Kendall Wooddell hit an RBI single to right field that drove in another run. The next at-bat, Beth Ann Hall walked to bring in another run.

Tabb’s Mandi Herget struck out during the next at-bat, giving the Tigers two outs in the inning. Mandi’s sister, Alicia, stepped to the plate and delivered an RBI single to right field to keep the rally alive.

A New Kent fielding error allowed Jade DeSimone to reach base and Kendall Wooddell to reach home,  putting Tabb down 8-7.

After starting the inning seven runs down, Skyler Crees hit a three-run double to put Tabb in the lead 10-8.

While the Tigers offense exploded, Adams pitched a strong 5 2/3 innings, allowing five hits and one earned run during the win.

Tabb will hope to win its third consecutive game as the Tigers take on Smithfield on the road 4:30 p.m. Friday.

Trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Smithfield answered with an RBI triple of its own. Meredith Throckmorton hit a long fly ball to center field that scored Hannah Rogers to give the Packers a 3-1 lead.
