warhillWarhill’s eight-game win streak came to an end at the hands of New Kent on Saturday, as the Lions dropped a 4-0 road contest.

For the first time all season, the Lions (8-2) were held scoreless after averaging more than 12 runs per game over their last five games.

New Kent (5-6) started the game well, scoring two runners on a single before a fielders choice drove in another run to put the Trojans up 3-0 in the bottom of the first.

Warhill starting pitcher Colby Norris gave up four runs over three innings before being replaced by Keely Rochard for the final three innings.

The Lions struggled to figure out New Kent pitcher Destiny Eberhard, recording four hits in the losing effort.

Warhill will look to rebound at home against Smithfield, who defeated the Lions 4-2 in their season opener, at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Kayley Cox Leads Grafton to Victory Over Tabb

Grafton (8-2) pitcher Kayley Cox pitched a complete game, allowing one run on six hits as the Clippers defeated Tabb 6-1 at home Saturday.

The Clippers jumped on Tabb (4-6) early as Kerstin Roth scored on a fielding error before Tara Deck hit a sacrifice fly that brought in Kayla Moore to give Grafton a 2-0 lead.

In the bottom of the second inning, Kierson Tavares of Grafton scored on a wild pitch from Alexis Gore. Later that inning, Ansley Ashby drove in Kelsey Hare on a grounder to put the Clippers up 4-0.

As well as earning a win on the mound, Cox also helped pace the Grafton offense, doubling to left field in the bottom of the third to drive in Tara Deck and Marika Whitlatch.

Tabb’s Amber Verstynen drove in Tabb’s lone run in the top of the fifth inning, doubling to right field and driving in Ashley Adams.

Grafton will play host to Jamestown at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, while the Tigers will host Poquoson at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
