The Jamestown (3-1) girls tennis team put up a tough fight, but in the end were unable to take down the reigning 4A girls tennis state champions Midlothian, losing the match 8-1 at Kiwanis Park on Friday afternoon.

Jamestown’s top singles player, Anna Walter, easily won her singles match against Midlothian’s No. 1 player Allyson Kearns 6-1, 6-1.

Walter teamed up with Britney Herard to give the No. 1 doubles team of Midlothian a fight. Trailing 6-1, the Jamestown duo battled back to 7-5 before dropping the decisive 13th game of the set.

The Eagles will travel to take on Clover Hill for its match at 4 p.m. Monday.

Jamestown Falls Behind Midlothian Before Weather Cancels Match

The Jamestown (4-0) boys tennis match at Midlothian Friday could not be completed due to inclement weather in the area.

Because Jamestown and Midlothian are in different districts, the suspended match will not count as a win or loss for either team.

Midlothian won two singles matches in third set tiebreakers, both of which were decided within three points.

Jamestown will host Clover Hill at 3 p.m. Monday.

The Hampton Roads Academy (2-1) boys tennis team took down Norfolk Christian 6-3 Friday.

The Navigators will host Peninsula Catholic at 4 p.m. Monday.
