Softball Roundup: Grafton Retools Lineup, Defeats Poquoson

Despite playing without starting third baseman and leadoff hitter Jessie Sprouse, who suffered a concussion during Thursday’s practice, Grafton managed to defeat Poquoson 6-1 on Friday.

Grafton had to redesign its lineup to make up for the loss of Sprouse, placing Kerstin Roth in the leadoff role. Roth went 2-3 with a run scored in the game.

Grafton’s (7-2) Tara Deck drove in two runs, while Marika Whitlatch chipped in an RBI.

The Clippers will host Tabb at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Tabb Blows Out Jamestown

The Tabb (4-5) offense exploded for 10 runs during a 10-2 road win against Jamestown on Friday.

Tabb’s Alexis Gore pitched a complete game, striking out five batters in the win.

Jamestown’s (0-6) Madi Maharty recorded a pair of hits for the Eagles in the losing effort.

The Tigers will look to win back-to-back games for the first time since March as they travel to take on Grafton at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Meanwhile, Jamestown is still looking for its first win of the season. The Eagles will try to collect a win on the road against Poquoson at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Warhill Routs Lafayette

The Warhill softball team did not hold back against Lafayette, defeating the rams 19-0 at home Friday.

Colby Norris drove in five runs for the Lions, while Virginia Tech commit Keely Rochard threw a no hitter.

The win marks Warhill’s eighth straight after losing the opener against Smithfield.

Warhill looks to make it nine straight wins as the Lions travel to take on New Kent at 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

Meanwhile, Lafayette is looking for its first win of the year. The Rams will visit York at 2 p.m. Saturday.

New Kent Takes Down Bruton

The Bruton softball team dropped a 6-3 decision to New Kent on Friday.

Bruton drops to 2-4 on the season with the loss and will hope to rebound at home against Smithfield at 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

York Falls to Smithfield

The York (5-3) softball team was shut out 6-0 by Smithfield on the road Friday.

York’s loss snaps a two-game winning streak and marks the first time the Falcons have been held scoreless all season.

The Falcons will host Lafayette 2 p.m. Saturday.
